AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR

The AED is an important device used in emergency cardiovascular care. AEDs are safe, accurate, easy to operate, and have saved many lives. They can be used effectively by lay people with minimal training.

The AED will enable targeted responders in a corporate and/or public setting to deliver early defibrillation (electrical shock) to victims in the first critical moments after a sudden cardiac arrest. Responder’s use of the AED will not replace care provided by emergency services (EMS) personnel, but is meant to provide a lifesaving bridge during the first few critical minutes before the arrival of EMS.

HOW WILL PUBLIC ACCESS DEFIBRILLATION HELP YOU AND YOUR EMPLOYEES/CO-WORKERS?

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurs when the heart does not pump effectively to deliver oxygen to one’s vital organs. Without defibrillation to restore a viable heart rhythm, death is imminent. In the U.S. alone, an estimated 350,000 persons per year die from SCA, often because lifesaving defibrillation does not reach these victims in time. With each minute of delay, the SCA victim’s chance of survival decreases by 10%.

What better way to promote health and safety training for you and your employees than to implement an AED workplace program.
